@DawnCraig37 If you Google FSI you get the correct link for the site. For some reason I can’t paste the address into the comment. Or, just add /Content.php to the end of the address linked in the info.

Thanks for this. I used to study German in school but I was always behind in it & not much ever sunk in, but I figured that it would be great knowing a second language so I am going to give it another shot at my own pace : )

agentrussia April 26, 2011 at 6:07 pm

well, i study languages, and dependsing on what you’re learning, quality varies. meaning, if you’re learnig spanish, one site may be good, but if you wanted to learn russian, the same site may not work. the mango site is great for listening skills. busuu is AMAZING. it comes in an itouch app and you can use it on the computer. it’s pretty convenient. but the wikibooks on t he language are the best. i used it while studying russian, making is 108375289x easier.

the rosetta stone

The Rosetta Stone is an Ancient Egyptian artifact which was instrumental in advancing modern understanding of hieroglyphic writing. The stone is a Ptolemaic era stele with carved text made up of three translations of a single passage: two in Egyptian language scripts (hieroglyphic and Demotic) and one in classical Greek. It was created in 196 BCE, discovered by the French in 1799 at Rosetta and contributed greatly to the deciphering of the principles of hieroglyph writing in 1822 by the British scientist Thomas Young and the French scholar Jean-François Champollion. Comparative translation of the stone assisted in understanding many previously undecipherable examples of hieroglyphic writing. The text on the stone is a decree from Ptolemy V, describing the repealing of various taxes and instructions to erect statues in temples.

Those three languages have very beautiful scripts. The written language of some languages just blows my mind.

Sadly he passed in ’05. I am 30 years old now & spent from the age of 13 trying to learn French. I checked out every tape in the library & bought software. The only words I learned were to ask how are you, greetings & I am sorry. I picked Michal Thomas up at my library & I was shocked by the rules, but went with it. I listened, tried, & had failures. The next day words started playing over in my head like a song you cant get out & for the first time ever, I spoke my first sentence, EVER.

the social sciences are of the colonial project

While it is useful to critique the situations of social sciences in class society, there simply be any social practices in stratified societies that are from (and not just within the influence of) classes and class struggle.

even padding can be arenas of contention — check out the open struggles waged in the annual meetings of the American Anthropological Association, for example, or the American Psychological Association, or even the Am Association for the Advancement of Science.

the emergence and development of social sciences follows a trajectory similar to that of the physical sciences in (capitalist) class society, with the obvious distinction that the subject matter and effects of the former are explicitly social whereas the social effects of the latter are cloaked by the primary objects of study.]]>

literally

"Je voudrais apprendre un français formel."

or rather

"Je voudrais apprendre un français propre."

I think that the French speaking Canadians do speak a formal French, too, but especially their pronounciation differs starkly from the French spoken in France.

ISF_Universe January 31, 2012 at 2:49 pm

i was wondering if you know foreign languages? Can you say few words in French??

92ChabezJenkins February 15, 2012 at 7:29 pm

You’re so tho: you’re doing great! I know how to do alot, just not learn foreign languages! What’s up in Malmö?

ownpool February 22, 2012 at 9:41 pm

It means at least 95% reading ability and possibly oral fluency as well. Discuss this subject with your academic advisor at your college.

If you are still in high school, you can probably meet the requirement by taking four years of the language with grades of at least B. Confirm this information with the college admissions office.
