Great question. As both a math student and a math tutor, I find that our current usage of the internet (mostly text, very little video) places unfortunate limitations on the ability to teach and learn mathematics online.
The advantages are convenience and speed. Information about almost any math topic is just a click away, and if you don't understand something, there are places (such as here) where you can ask a question and receive an answer very quickly.
The main disadvantage is that math is not just a bundle of facts, but also a bundle of techniques. Whereas facts are easy to relate via text, techniques are not. There is no substitute for watching somebody physically show you how to solve a problem. This holds for just about every level of math.
My advice to teachers is that text doesn't cut it. Animations of techniques are great. Interactive animations (via javascript, for example) are even better. The very best usage of the internet would be to post a video of each math lecture in some archive, so that students can watch and re-watch a problem they find confusing. This is not yet a feasible option for most classrooms due to the associated technology cost and required web storage space. At my university they save the audio from every lecture in a web archive, which is a great leap forward in utilizing the internet for learning, but audio isn't enough for a subject as visual as math.

Teaching and Learning of Maths and the Internet is a great topic but very difficult to answer!!! There are numerous websites that can be incorporated into the maths lesson – http://www.mathletics.com.au covers all learning area within the math curriculum. The kids can play "math games" compete against each other speed up their addition/Multiplication/subtraction and division skills.
The Internet can be used as a tool to widen the learning experience…coolmath.com is another site that is good
Disadvantages are – Teacher not being able to fully and properly assess the student learning, eg not seeing the did you do to pick up errors….
Less teacher student discussion. and student to student discussion
There is so much I could write about this topic but I want to do your assignment for you!!!
Advantages: Students can access at home,
self directed learning therefore giving child some responsibility over their own learning.
Kids love the computer and see it as privilege to use at school (especially in state schools where computers are not 1 to 1….)
Good luck
